Hotels near Old Trafford
Old Trafford is a good area to stay at for many reasons. It's close to the city centre, no more than a couple of miles, dependent on where you choose to stay. It's very well connected with transport links. The home to Manchester United and Lancashire Cricket Club. It's also close to the Salford Quays area which is home to the Lowry, Media City and the Imperial War Museum. Hotel rates can be cheaper than the city centre hotels and most have car parks avoiding Manchester's very expensive parking rates.
The Lowry, Imperial War Museum North and Media City in Salford Quays, are also only 15 minutes walk away. [click here for hotels in Salford Quays]
SOME USEFUL TIPS
In decent weather, Old Trafford is a pleasant 30 minute walk from Manchester city centre along the canal - which goes from Castlefield to Throstle Nest Bridge (below the Pomona tram stop), where you need to join the main road. Alternatively thousands of people walk along the very busy (and dangerous) dual carriageway which, despite linking Manchester city centre to the region's most popular tourist attraction, does not boast a footpath and can get muddy in wet weather

~ Most of the hotels near Old Trafford have private car parking. The city centre is only 2 miles drive away where hotels are well served by public car parks

~ Old Trafford metrolink stop, located just 10 minutes walk from the football stadium at Lancashire County Cricket Club, is the main tram station to Manchester United and links the city centre (7 mins), Sale (5 mins) and Altrincham (13 mins).
~ Pomona tram stop (on the Eccles line) is also 10 minutes walk from Manchester United however trams to the city centre (4 mins) are often already full after the match.
~ Exchange Quay tram stop is 10 minutes walk from Manchester United and links the city centre (6 mins) and Eccles (21 mins).
~ Alternatively, avoid the queues and catch the tram at MediaCityUK, next to The Lowry, a 20 minute walk across the footbridge. Trams take 12 minutes to the city centre or 11 mins to Eccles
~ Trafford Bar metrolink is 10 mins from Old Trafford Cricket Ground or 15 mins walk from Manchester United. Trams for the city centre take just 5 mins but are often full immediately after the match. You should catch trams here for Chorlton (3 mins) or Didsbury (10 mins)

~ Manchester United Football Ground boasts its own train station, located underneath the South Stand, but, since 2018, the Club have asked for services to be stopped due to safety concerns
~ Piccadilly Station is the main train station for Manchester. It takes 16 minutes tram ride from Old Trafford metrolink stop at Lancashire cricket ground.

~ Manchester Airport has its own rail station and connects to Piccadilly Station in only 15 minutes.. Taxis from the airport to Old Trafford take approx 20 mins on non-match days (10 miles / 16km).

There's a good range of choices but we particularly like HOTEL FOOTBALL, which is directly adjacent to the football ground, and the nearby HILTON GARDEN INN. As an alternative, you may prefer one of the many apartments in the area and many of these are captured on the map..
